VolkLaw Attorneys Attend the 2019 Law Day Dinner
Posted: May 3rd, 2019
On April 22, the Brevard County Bar Association (BCBA) presented the 2019 Law Day Dinner. The dinner was attended by VolkLaw Attorneys David Volk, Michael Dujovne, Brian Solomon, David Jones, and Michael O’Neill. The award’s dinner is to showcase the 2019 Law Day Contest Winners in both essay writing and art work. The dinner was attended by several Brevard County Circuit and County Court judges, and judges from the Fifth District Court of Appeal. In addition, Brevard county students and teachers were present.
Law Day promotes the role of law in this country, empowers teachers with resources to teach law and civics in their classrooms, and engages students with thought-provoking tasks to understand the roles of law and government. This year’s thought-provoking theme was “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society.” The students were tasked with writing an essay or rendering art work to reflect this theme. The students’ works were judged by judges from the Brevard County court system. The winners in elementary, middle, and high school grades were selected and, at the dinner, read their essays or explained the meaning of their art work. All agreed that all entries were excellent and choosing a winner in each category was difficult. The dinner was closed with a speech concerning the tensions that underlie the First Amendment Right of Free Speech. Volk Law’s attorneys value the hard work the students and teachers put into developing writings and art work to reflect this year’s Law Day theme.
