On May 8, 2018, Michael Dujovne gave a presentation at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club to the Brevard Women’s Council of Realtors on the topic of “Don’t Lose Your Florida Homestead Tax Exemption.” The audience was surprised to hear that Florida residents are losing their homestead tax exemptions because they are receiving a tax benefit on a home in another state, even though they might not have applied for it and do not realize they are receiving it. They were even more surprised to hear that they have to pay hefty penalties and interest in addition to the back taxes, and a lien can be placed on their home. The audience was engaged and asked many good questions.
